In a significant legislative development, the Senate has approved Senate Bill 2816, also known as the Proposed Act Setting the Term of Office for Barangay Officials and Members of the Sanguniang Kabataan, on its third and final reading. The bill received unanimous support from all 22 senators, with no opposition or abstentions.

Senator Imee Marcos, the bill’s sponsor, announced that the next election is scheduled for October 20, 2027. The winning officials will assume office in November 2027, following the election.

If Senate Bill 2816 becomes law, barangay and SK officials will have the opportunity to serve four-year terms, with a maximum of three consecutive terms.
