An inspection conducted yesterday by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the Philippine Coast Guard, and representatives from a barge company revealed that the landing ramps in Biliran and Leyte are not suitable for barges carrying 30 wing vans. The barge captain reported that the ramps are not suitable for their large capacity barges, recommending smaller barges for the area.
This news comes as a setback for the province, as negotiations are underway to secure a larger barge that can accommodate 12 big cargo trucks. The business sector is leading these negotiations in coordination with the Provincial Government of Biliran (PLGU-Biliran) and other concerned national agencies.
Despite this challenge, the Provincial Government of Biliran remains committed to addressing the issue and ensuring the continuity of transport services for the people of Biliran. They are actively seeking suitable barge transport services that can meet the needs of the province.
