The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has announced plans to implement a national unified 911 emergency system within the next three years.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla shared details of the proposal during the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance National Awarding at the Manila Hotel. The system will feature language-sensitive services, ensuring responses in local languages, English, or Tagalog, depending on the caller’s location.
“We will have 10 call centers nationwide to provide direct communication for emergency responses, eliminating the fragmented systems we currently have,” Remulla explained.
To enhance the system’s functionality, the DILG will invest in 10,000 ambulances, police vehicles, and fire trucks, equipping local government units (LGUs) with the necessary resources to address emergencies effectively.
“It’s not enough to just make a call; there has to be action. Every LGU must be capable of responding to emergencies,” Remulla emphasized.
The initiative builds upon the modernized 911 emergency system, launched in August 2024, which integrates advanced technology to reduce response times and identify prank callers in collaboration with PLDT.
This effort aligns with DILG’s commitment to strengthening LGU emergency response capabilities and ensuring seamless public service.
