Congressman Gerardo “Gerryboy” Espina Jr. has intensified efforts to secure immediate funding for the repair of the Biliran Bridge, following reports of unusual movements that have raised safety concerns.
In a statement, Congressman Espina disclosed that he has been actively coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Office to address the issue promptly. “I have personally reached out to the DPWH Secretary to emphasize the urgency of the situation,” he said.
The DPWH Secretary has acknowledged the concerns and committed to conducting a thorough investigation while exploring solutions to address the structural anomalies. Congressman Espina reassured the public of his continued efforts to push for the necessary funding and actions to resolve the matter, prioritizing the safety and well-being of Biliran residents.
The Biliran Bridge, a critical link for the province, has become a top priority for repair due to its importance in connecting communities and supporting the local economy.
Meanwhile, personnel from the DPWH are actively working to improve the approach on the Leyte side of the bridge, ensuring the safe passage of vehicles exceeding 5 tons. Congressman Espina has expressed his full support for this initiative, highlighting its significance in enhancing transportation infrastructure for the community.
