The Municipality of Almeria has once again demonstrated its commitment to good governance and sustainable development. During the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) National Validation held on September 18 at the Almeria Municipal Building, the municipality received positive feedback and was recommended for the prestigious award.

The SGLG Award recognizes local government units (LGUs) that exhibit exceptional performance in various areas, including financial management, transparency, disaster preparedness, social protection, and environmental sustainability.

Mayor Richard Jaguros expressed his gratitude for the recommendation and reaffirmed the municipality’s dedication to serving its constituents.

National validators from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Negros Oriental, LGOO VII Jesus Robel Sastrillo, and LGOO VI Jay Loizel Pido, assessed Almeria’s performance across ten governance areas.

To qualify for the SGLG Award, LGUs must meet stringent criteria in areas such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, health, education, business-friendliness, safety, environmental management, tourism, youth development, and more.

Almeria’s consistent performance in these areas has solidified its position as a leading LGU. While the recommendation will be reviewed by the Council of Good Local Governance for final approval, the municipality’s chances of receiving the award are strong.

It’s worth noting that Almeria has a history of excellence in governance, having been an awardee of the 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance. This latest recommendation further underscores the municipality’s dedication to serving its community and promoting sustainable development.
